While there seem to be several programs for formatting screenplays, aids for submitting articles, short stories, novels, &c, to commercial markets don't exactly leap out of your favorite search engine. We've found these similar products:
- ProsePro for Microsoft® Word apparently helps people subdue the "savage beast" of Microsoft® Word so it facilitates standard manuscript format; although advertised on MasterFreelancer, ProsePro does not seem to be 1) sold elsewhere, or 2) supported by anybody else except Stefani Warren & Associates and they're just providing consultants (if you go looking, notice how many people mispelled Shakespeare's Prospero as "ProsePro")
- Reference Point Software also provides word-processor templates, but none seem appropriate for selling manuscripts in commercial markets, only for submitting researh papers to the American Psychiatric Association &c
- StyleEase® Formatting Software for Academic and Professional Documents, i.e., for manuscripts that must meet the Chicago Manual of Style (14th Edition), Turabian's Manual for Writers (6th Edition), or Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th Edition) (available from www.styleease.com), although these styles aren't appropriate for most commercial markets
- EbookoMatic if you want to "Instantly publish, promote, distribute and sell unlimited ebooks across multiple web sites." and "it not only creates your ebooks instantly, but it also gives you your own web presence complete with secure shopping cart and automated fulfillment and sales tracking." Though it doesn't seem to offer much for those other ways you need to prepare manuscripts; printMSS provides softcopy (electronic) as well as hardcopy formatting.
- Convert text to RTF with AscToRTF, but it doesn't apply intelligence to the text being converted, such as understanding emphasis (see emphasistags)
- Digital Page Author "With digital page author software, you have a professional-quality, affordable, versatile tool that allows you to create an unlimited number of digital web books." As above, it doesn't seem to offer much for those other ways you need to prepare manuscripts; printMSS provides softcopy (electronic) as well as hardcopy formatting.
Several programs, such as Power Writer™ (available from
www.write-brain.com), do tackle the process of writing with a lot of fervor, what you might call the content or "ga-zinta" part (what goes into the story, article, screenplay, &c), but they don't specifically address the issue of making the resulting MS presentable for your buying audience. Power Writer™'s ads, for instance, say nothing about putting out the finished product. Their splashy animations imply that a single format, which it forces on you while you're working with it, is all you need. Not really.
